Those on a luxury coach tour to Bath might be tempted to pick up a copy of the local newspaper as a memento of their trip.

The Bath Chronicle is celebrating its 250th anniversary in October and has unveiled a collection of copies dating back more than two centuries, BBC News has revealed.

It recently launched an appeal to readers looking to find some of its earliest ever issues and has found one dated 1787 - just 17 years after it was first published.

"We all keep papers that are significant to us," editor Sam Holliday told BBC Radio Bristol.

"I have papers the day my kids were born and you keep things like when John Lennon died, I've still got copies of papers."

He added that old papers have been pouring in to the Bath Chronicle office, with many from the 1800s.

The oldest to date was purchased by a reader at a fete in 1978, 200 years after the newspaper was first published.

Mr Holliday challenged readers to find one older.

Meanwhile, BBC News has revealed that experts have confirmed that the stained glass window in Bath Abbey is indeed the work of renowned Victorian designer William Burges.
