Visit Oxford has created a list of the top ten things to do on a trip to the historic city.

Always a popular place for luxury coach tours, the destination offers an abundance of sites and activities.

According to the tourism body, one of the best things to do on a trip to Oxford is take a guided tour of the city and its famous colleges.

It said that visitors should be sure to "explore the tucked away lanes and hidden colleges", learning about the history and significance of the buildings as they go.

Another fun activity is to check out the backwaters of the River Isis, the Cherwell and the Oxford Canal by taking a packed lunch on a punt, Edwardian cruiser, canoe or pedalo.

Those with a love for horticulture could enjoy a trip to the University of Oxford Botanic Garden which is the oldest of its type in the UK and features more than 7,000 species.

Each year, a team of University of Oxford rowers take on a rival group from Cambridge in a race on the Thames in London.
