About Cardiff
Cardiff is the capital of Wales in all senses of the word! No passport is necessary to visit Wales and its capital Cardiff, but don't think that Wales is just an extension of Northern England. Surrounded by mountains to the north and the ocean to the south, Cardiff is actually the youngest capital in Europe in a country abounding with ancient history and more castles per square mile than anywhere else in Europe!
Cardiff is a lively cosmopolitan city, proud of its rich history and famous for its passion for sport. The city of Cardiff is the county town of the historic county of Glamorgan (and later South Glamorgan).
Cardiff is part of the Euro cities network of the largest European cities. It was a small town until the early 19th century and came to prominence as a major port for the transport of coal following the arrival of industry in the region. Cardiff was made a city in 1905, and proclaimed capital of Wales in 1955.
